This is an interactive skills development training program.
Participants are encouraged to come to share their own stories and experiences.
This program will help you feel more confident and on your game as a Privacy Officer in any healthcare environment.
Morning Program – Learning by Doing: Hot Topic Privacy Scenarios
Using scenario-based learning with changing facts and twists and turns (like in real life) of actual privacy cases my clients faced (anonymized!!) or that came before the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario in the last few years, you will strengthen your privacy knowledge, skills and judgement. Woven into feedback on how to answer these situations will be updates on IPC decisions and changes to the legislation and regulations.
We will do scenarios based on:
Investigating a snooping incident
Answering a clinician’s question about a dispute involving a kid and separated parents
Managing a request for access to information outside the traditional health record
Responding to a request for correction of health information
Providing information to family after the death of patient
Investigating a wrongful disclosure complaint
Afternoon Program – Electronic Health Record Audit Workshop
In training more than 200 Privacy Officers in the last 2 years, the biggest issue that comes up has to do with “audits”. It’s the one thing that has all Privacy Officers up at night. In this workshop we will work through actual audit searches and data results using a test environment of an electronic health record. You will see simulated results of the kinds of audits you can do!
We will cover:
Audits requirements for health care organizations
Types of audits you can do
Practical audit search parameters you can use
Investigation proceses to follow once you have an audit report
Documentation of audits tips for due diligence
